At 2:30 pm on November 12, 2020, the opening ceremony of SIS TOP Foreign Language Training Camp was held in Classroom 420, No.4 Teaching Building on Yanta Campus. The ceremony was presided over by Professor Lyu Minhong, Head of the English Department of School of International Languages. Teachers and students of SIS were presented at the ceremony.
The ceremony began with an opening lecture delivered by Professor Liu Quanguo, Deputy Dean of SIS. First, Prof. Liu expounded on the Five-sphere Holistic Education, a concept designed to foster well-rounded foreign language learners with extensive knowledge, multilingual proficiency, educational abilities, international vision, and scientific research attainments. Then he introduced the original intention, scientific operation and organization, as well as academic and practical outputs of TOP camp. At last, Prof. Liu stressed that competition is a means rather than an end, and hoped that every student can be stronger psychologically and academically through the activity.
Later, Ding Liming, Deputy Head of the English Department, introduced the purpose, basic content and detailed implementation of the training camp. He pointed out that the TOP camp aimed at improving the competence of students of SIS, especially government-paid teaching students, in future workplace, and providing a platform for all students to improve themselves, go in for competition, and practice.
Then, Mr. Ma Weihua, undergraduate teaching secretary of SIS, expressed his hope that students study hard and learn from the training camp, and that students cultivate themselves to good teachers in the new era who attract their own students with profound knowledge, superb skills and lasting charm. He also highlighted that what they will become of in four years depends on their choices and efforts made in that four years, as practice is the sole criterion of truth.
In the end, all the tutors extended to students their wishes and expectations. Miss Gao Fen suggested students enrich their university life; Miss Liu Dan hoped that students can take this opportunity to improve themselves; Miss Luo Yahui said that she would do her best to help students and hoped that they can enjoy their efforts; Miss Cui Lin hoped that the training camp will help each student become an all-round person, a top player, and a TOPer.
The opening ceremony of SIS TOP Foreign Language Training Camp came to a successful close. Hope all students can learn from the training and take the opportunity to improve themselves.
